Plants

Do you use organic seeds and potting mix?

We purchase organic seed whenever it is available from the trusted seed sources that we use. We make our own potting mix with organic ingredients and never use synthetic fertilizers

How big are the seedlings at the time of pickup?

The seedling sizes will vary with each variety but all come in 2.5 inch pots unless otherwise noted. It is our goal to have them perfectly rooted in their pots in time for pick up. If by chance the root ball is not fully formed then wait to plant until it is.

Do I need to harden off my plants?

We harden off all the seedlings for at least a week before pick-up, so they are ready to go in their permanent locations as long as weather permits.

Will you send out a plant pick-up reminder?

We will email you a reminder one week before your chosen date with pick up instructions. Please mark your calendar!

Is it possible that I would not receive a plant that I have paid for?

Is it possible that I will not receive a plant that I paid for?

Very infrequently we have had low germination rates on a few varieties. In the rare chance that we cannot completely fulfill your order, you will be refunded for those plants prior to pick up. You will be notified via email if that were to happen.

Can I order plants and tinctures in the same transaction?

Can I order tinctures and plants together?

We would greatly appreciate it if you would place a separate order for tinctures. It’s much easier for us to stay organized this way. Thanks for your help in keeping the operational side of Heartsong running smoothly.

Tinctures

What does it mean to be “beyond organic”?

The USDA organic standards prohibit the use of non-organic pesticides and fertilizers but they do not regulate how farmers tend to their soil. Along with following the organic standards, we also put a great deal of energy into the health and preservation of the land we grow on. Strong soil = strong plants = strong people!

What is Regenerative Agriculture and why is it important?

Regenerative Agriculture is a set of farming practices that focus on soil health. Not tilling the soil, known as no-till, is one of the main ways farmers implement Regenerative Agriculture, along with a system on cover cropping to protect and feed the soil life. When soil is not tilled, the mycorrhizal fungal networks are left intact to deliver nutrients from the soil to the plants. These growing practices also leave carbon in the ground instead of releasing it into the atmosphere which is a major cause of global warming.

Do you grow all the herbs in your products?

We grow 90% of all the herbs in our products. There are a handful that either do not grow in our climate or we have yet to master. Check the ingredients on the individual product pages to see which herbs we grow.

Where do the herbs you purchase come from?

We purchase herbs from small US farms as close to home as possible and buy them fresh whenever they are available.

How do I take a tincture?

There is really no wrong way! Although we highly recommend not taking it straight in your mouth as many of our tinctures have a strong flavor. Instead, mix the suggested dose with the liquid of your choice.

Do you give farm tours?

We are not currently giving tours but we love showing folks around when we offer workshops, which we are planning a number of in 2023.
